As we mentioned in the last newsletter it has been a year since we—Faaiza, Moly, Moirae—first started migrating the contents of our WhatsApp group chat to you in the form of a newsletter and giving you an inside look into our convos and discussions.
And the truth is, we kind of miss the intimacy of those convos and discussions. So, we are taking a break from our public platform to continue these chats in our WhatsApp group.
And look, if you are feeling left out—this isn’t personal, we just want to get back to basics. If you want to join in on one of our monthly discussion calls, just let us know!
On that note, we are going to leave you with some parting quotes:
Moirae
“If you’re not in the arena also getting your ass kicked, I’m not interested in your feedback.” - Theodore Roosevalt via Brené Brown.
This resonates so much with me as my life has gone through a lot...I mean a...lot…of change in the last year. And what I can say is this, look, if you are up in the cheap seats just talking about how to do XYZ better, that’s cool you do you. But I don’t want to hear your smack talk unless you are also in the arena getting vulnerable and opening yourself up to life—innovation, creation, love, belonging, and trust, K?! Cool.
Faaiza
“Seek to attach your identity to your values, not your beliefs.” - Adam Grant.
Being a stubborn person, I find it difficult to admit to changing my mind on something. When I heard this on a podcast this morning, it made me think about what I want to be known for—how I think, or what I think? How I think, who I am, and what drives me are far more valuable assets than being stubborn or being right.
Moly
“Ask the questions you need to ask, admit without apology what you don’t understand, and do the work to learn what you need to learn as quickly as you can.” - Bob Iger, The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned from 15 Years as CEO of the Walt Disney Company
I’m known to ask a lot of questions and at times that’s made me feel self-conscious, but Bob Iger finishes that thought for me in a way that feels empowering: Leaders figure out what they need to know and then get their asses up to speed asap. I highly recommend Bob’s (audio)book—the way he covers campaigning for CEO, acquiring Pixar and Marvel, leading a global team, and much more is somehow relatable and I learned so much!
Goodbye, don’t cry—we won’t.
